UHA does not cover employer-mandated testing without a confirmed COVID19 exposure as shown below. Employees with UHA coverage that do not meet the testing criteria will be billed to the employer.
Please read the information about COVID-19 testing coverage by UHA for employee and contact UHA for more information:
Q1. Does UHA cover employer requested or required COVID-19 “screening?”
A. No. A screening test for COVID-19 is not covered by your UHA plan. A “screening test” for COVID-19 is a test administered to someone with no symptoms. The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) do not currently recommend testing for people who do not have symptoms.
Q2. Will UHA cover COVID-19 testing if I currently show no COVID-19 symptoms (am asymptomatic)?
A. It depends on your personal situation. To receive a covered COVID-19 test, someone with no COVID-19 symptoms (asymptomatic) must meet current Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) guidelines as well as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) guidelines for close contact with an infected person, which the CDC defines as any individual who's been within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes of repeated face-to-face contact within a 24-hour period with a laboratory-confirmed or probable COVID-19 patient.
